Chris and Jake’s Kilimanjaro Caper

Chris and Jake’s Kilimanjaro Caper

Sophie’s Appeal fundraiser of the year for three years running, Chris ‘Foggy’ Curtis, has just returned from Africa having climbed and descended Mount Kilimanjaro in just six days.

Chris decided to climb the peak after having just raised thousands of pounds for Sophie’s Appeal by running the ABP Southampton Marathon.

He and his climbing partner, Jake Aubrey put in days (well a day) of practice by climbing Snowdon earlier on this year but, at five times higher, Kilimanjaro was going to test them like never before.

They reached the summit to see the sunrise after 5 days walking, climbing and acclimatising and often walked for 18 hours a day.

Chris said, ‘it was the hardest thing I have ever done, but what an experience.  It has been an amazing way of raising over £9000 and the people I have met and achievements I’ve made make it all worthwhile.  Thank you to everyone who sponsored me…now to collect it!’.
